Carol Service

We hope you enjoyed a lovely evening on Wednesday.

I am very proud of 3D - the singing and reading was fantastic! We'd practised the bells many many times and had never 'got it', but it all fell into place on the night! That was definitely the best they had ever performed it!!

The Bazaar!

Tut's Terrifying Tomb!

We've been writing our own newspaper articles about the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb!

To be successful we've tried to make sure we have:

* Used a catchy headline
* Started with a hook
* Used time connectives
* Written in paragraphs
* Used the correct punctuation for speech

Lots to remember, I know!

Here are two snippets ...

Mummification!

To better understand the mummification process, the children have started mummifying bananas!

Step 1 -Clean banana with Natron (dissolved in water)

Step 2 - Make a long cut down the left side and scoop out the lungs, intestines, stomach and liver and              place these in canopic jars (one for each organ). Heart needs to be left inside!

Step 3 - Insert a hook up the nose and pull out the brains.
Step 4  - Soak in Natron salt and leave for 40 days

We haven't quite got 40 days, but will be coming back for the next steps next week...so watch this space!

".................................."

To help with their newspaper report writing, the children have been learning how to punctuate speech correctly...

 Challenge- How many different words can you think of to use instead of said?

How did the Ancient Egyptians build pyramids?

Check it out here!

Magnets!

In Science this week the children have been learning about magnets, and more specifically, how compasses work. They all had a go at making their own compass, by first magnetising a paper clip, then placing it on top of a bottle top in a tray of water. It was very successful for everyone, and all needles pointed north! Yippee!

Newspapers

After practising in different ways with partners, the children have internalised the structure of a newspaper report and some of its key features. They started to plan their own by boxing up...

How do you think Tutankhamun died? What would your newspaper report say?
