Myth planning began today!

Instead of  'How the giraffe got it's long neck', the children have started to think about which animal they are going to write their myth about.

We have some very imaginative ideas!

The Romans

In topic this week, we've been exploring the spread of the Roman Empire and plotting this on a map.
This helped the class identify the areas the Romans conquered, and see how the boundaries have changed.

We've also started to look at roads!
Why did the Romans want to build roads? Why were they important to them? Where were they?

We will be looking at this more next week!

Volcanoes

The children have been finding out all about volcanoes, how and where they form and sharing any experiences they have of visiting one.

I've been really pleased with their ability to use geographic/scientific vocabulary when describing why volcanoes erupt and what happens...

Roman Baths

Following lunch, the children were keen to roam the museum using their headsets finding out all about the history of the baths...

Myths

Over the next few weeks we'lł be reading some myths, as well as making up our own animal based one. We started with some talk for writing....

Building a round house

Happy 'school' birthday, Daisy!

Today we celebrated Daisy's 8th birthday, which took place over the Christmas holidays. The children enjoyed telling everyone what fun they had at her party at heart space studios! 

Improving instructions

After, unsuccessfully, trying to follow a set of vague instructions, the children began to understand the importance of being clear, precise and detailed when writing instructions.

Whilst remembering to use bossy 'imperial' verbs, adverbs and time connectives, the children had a go at writing their own instructions for making an origami elephant, trying to be as specific as possible...

Cut Throat Celts!

The children have really enjoyed starting to learn about the lives of the Celts! They jumped right in with a scavenger information hunt, which they carried out in pairs, to find out about food, religion, housing and clothing...

Tying in with literacy this term, they followed instructions to make torcs.
